My mother's grandfather moved there after the big fire of 1893. He was a bricklayer of Irish extraction (rather recent, I believe) who was living in Minnesota at the time.

I guess they really needed bricklayers, since after the fire they decided to use brick instead of wood.

It's actually pretty nice there -- small and cold and flat, but there's a decent mexican restaurant, and lots of free parking, and the cost of housing is not too bad.
